Digital Story Examples
The following examples were created by students at Arizona State University for TEL 313 in Fall 2011. I recommend you watch each of these videos. Each one illustrates a unique and creative concept for digital story creation. After watching these examples, I think you will know why I consider digital storytelling more of a writing project than a technology project.
Daddy's Little Girl 4:06 (personal narrative)
This digital story is a personal account of a difficult time in the author's life. Notice how the pictures, music and text choices increase the effectiveness of the story rather than distracting from it. Well written and well produced personal narrative digital story.

Vermont Leaves 4:01 (poem)
The concept for this digital story originated from the author's feeling of being "homesick." She had some photos and recruited family members back home to take others. She also had friends draw pictures and record the guitar music for the background. What an expression of creativity this is!

Happiness and Heartbreak 3:16 (narrative)
This student talks about what means the most to her... her sons. Technical difficulties after technical difficulties occurred while putting this digital story together, but with a strong concept and perseverance, it turned into a very nice piece. It is interesting to note that this student started the semester with little confidence of her technology skills, and through this project, gained knowledge, confidence and even a love for digital storytelling!

A Not So Sweet, Sweet Potato Story 4:00 (creative writing)
This story was originally written by the author as an elementary student. Turning it into a digital story, she has immortalized this special work AND exercised even more creativity with the claymation and drawings used for illustrating the story.

Batman Jr. 4:47 (script writing)
This student had previous experience with digital storytelling and expressed a desire to branch out and try something new, i.e., script writing and movie making! He did a great job taking a classic plot line (the crossroads of life for a young man who just lost his father), combined it with a comic theme (Batman), and added ASU and 21st century flare. NOTE: the audio is soft on this video, so turn up the volume!
